We all feel the lack of so many things in the world as it has become. It is not a matter of whether there is yearning and hunger, but rather a matter of how those forces are directed. That is the central fact of orientation for each one, and it tells the core of each person’s life story.

I love this! I was recently considering what it means in my life to apply the instruction “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
I think what separates us, as your poem suggests, “life apart” begins with what we give our heart to. There are myriad woeful needs and lacks in this world; in addition to amazingly interesting and even thrilling people, places and interests that can distract the heart from abiding in its place that brings oneness with the vine. The yearning you mention is to me the path to fulfilling my commission on Earth. For me I find daily consideration, agile repentance and an abiding appreciation is necessary to connect me. I love your poem, it describes the direction for any meaning filled life.
