A Guide

A guide, on finding a man who has lost his way, brings him back to the right path ﹣ he does not mock and jeer at him and then take himself off. You also must show the unlearned man the truth, and you will see that he will follow. But so long as you do not show it him, you should not mock, but rather feel your own incapacity.” – Epictetus

It takes a bigger man to find in himself the means by which the truth he knows can be received by others than it does to lord and leverage his knowledge of truth over others less fortunate. The greatest privilege and responsibility to which a man can aspire is to be made free by truth so that he may assist others to know the truth that they, in turn, might be made free.

As I work with various managers, especially sales managers, this probably is the single biggest theme, and at the same time the single biggest roadblock to truly being able to in a positive way effect others. It takes a great deal of knowledge delivered with genuine humbleness so that others want to receive it. One has to build up to this ability and capability over time, although all of us are born with it.

That would seem to be one of the hallmarks by which you would know for certain it was the truth you were caught up in. I’ve realized another signature of the truth is wanting to bless your fellows with the same patience, kindness, and when necessary, forgiveness, that is a natural accompaniment to the truth.
