Daily Decrease

It can be refreshing to look at life as a sculptor does a block of marble.

To think, for example, that you have everything you need already within you. From this perspective you would see that education is more about drawing forth than it is about filling in, that leading is more about inspiring than it is forcing and that living is less about making something of yourself than it is about revealing who you are.

It is not a daily increase, but a daily decrease. Hack away at the inessentials.” – Bruce Lee

I think this perspective is needed sometimes, as an optimal life is as much about culling as it is building. As in nature, there are all sorts of things growing in our lives, some worthwhile, some not so much. It is up to those who have wisdom to cull that which needs culling, and nurture that which needs nourishing. The master sculptor will not chip away that which should remain.

I have heard it said that the service which true love gives is better than great gifts. In light of your words looking to get greater gifts of whatever nature pales in comparison to what can be given and revealed through us.

This truly is humility. How could we think we could improve on our creators design. We are a perfect package; designed for a specific purpose. As we approach our lives with appreciation for our sufficiency we are rewarded with the revelation of what has already been provided for us.
