Arrhythmia

The majority of our modern ills spring from a pervasive and stubborn arrhythmia. Indeed, physical and mental ills often trace trace their source to a lack of sensitivity or worse, a blatant disregard for the natural rhythms of life.

We marvel at the precise movement of the heavens above, the innate wisdom of the hibernating bear or the predictability of the 5,730 year half life of the unstable isotope of carbon, yet we as a species refuse in virtually every aspect of our function over which we have a measure of autonomy to work in harmony with the rhythms and pulsations of the larger context in which we are strategically set.

We fatten up in the winter and hope to shed pounds in the summer, despite this being contrary to the cyclical availability of food resources. We light up the night and fail to recognize the revitalizing and perspective-granting moments of rest available throughout the day. We suppress symptoms with medicine rather than supporting their expression, which ultimately drives the imbalances deeper into the body, creating more intractable problems in the process.

Instead of moving with the rhythms of the cosmos, we arrogate unto ourselves the responsibility for the timing of the creative pulsations which govern life itself. The trouble is we weren’t designed to do that. We’re the wrong tool for the job. We have a part to play, but we – like this fabulous country in which I live – have overextended ourselves.

Surely, there are a few who can recognize this fact and look to do something about it in their own living!?!

They key to unlocking this pattern is found in the heart. Your heart is either caught up in awe and reverence for the beautiful rhythms of the cosmos or you let your heart be moved by the irregular drumbeat of mankind’s arrogance and ignorance. The choice, dear readers, is yours. Stop, be still and listen carefully. You’ll start to perceive them again…it’s just a matter of time, obedience, humility and willingness to let go to a larger experience of living.

I think that in many cases we deaden ourselves to the worlds rhythms, maybe now just out of habit, but definitely because without these distractions being out of rhythm with the natural world causes great discomfiture. We only have to get out of our distractions when it significantly affects our physical bodies, and there are distractions for that as well.
The only cure here is to begin to be more sensitive to the natural rhythm. I don’t mean we all have to necessarily move into the woods, but there are the subtle rhythms of nature that should pervade our every moment, no matter where we are.

As the evening and morning unfold, the waves lapse along a shore or a flower opens into full expression – so also should we rest into the beautiful rhythm’s of which we are an intricate part. Thank you for your consistent voice; a call to remembrance and a challenge to fulfill our unique birthright. As I hear your words, I take heed; ask that I may join them with a single-minded focus which is required to meet the obstacles that may come from the serenity of my heart and mind pulsating with the reality of Life.

Oddly, people are very much concerned with rhythms, but essentially this amounts to obsession with meaningless habits, arbitrary pulsations that bring a numbing sort of comfort, or at least a little seeming relief from the sense of disconnection and lack of meaning that is so common.

The genuine rhythms of the Cosmos are at hand, available to be known in all their spontaneity and newness, but we have to be willing to venture out of the mundane routines that tend to entomb a person. Thank you for your excellent summary.

If the key to unlocking this pattern is found in the heart, then each person on earth has access to that key, which puts complete responsibility for the experience of our lives in our own hands. Although we can’t always control what happens to us, experiences that we’ve had or what type of situation we were born into, we can choose to move with the rhythms of life or against them. This is liberating.

A worthy meditation, thank you. I believe it starts with realizing we have a purpose for being on Earth. Realizing an exacting purpose means we don’t have to spend our lifetime creating a meaningful life. Understanding we have to allow our life to unfold, as seasons in a year or any maturing sequence, requires we subordinate our inclination to steer and become aware and sensitive to the innate rudder. Humility and courage are sustaining attributes in this endeavor.
