The Finest Part

I have a little secret,
I dare not spill or tell.
It’s not so much a secret,
For those who know me well.

The time I spend in private
Is given to my heart.
What passes through the eyelet
Is but the finest part.

I love your poem today. Ground zero for our success in living a meaningful life is our heart. It’s the place to start to make changes in any area of our lives; in that it’s the highest leverage for us. Behavior modification, emotional maturity and any other system of improvement that beckons our attention at the beginning of the new year all start with what your heart holds. The great thing is those private times, it gives us the space to clean it up.

Right action should be habitual, yet the habit (and the action) doesn’t come out of nowhere. It takes a certain centerdness to be able to keep your heart in a place where the proper responses can come from it, and that centerdness needs a certain care to come about.

Just like anything else, our outward bearing comes from our inward bearing, and they all require maintenance and fine-tuning.

There is a man with golden heart,
    That overflows with love.
Freely giving to all who care to hear,
    Great enlightenment to them impart.
