Out of the Whirlwind

The bands which bound you yesterday
May well have been unloosed,
But be not fooled dear friend today
The leavings must be sluiced.

For that which hampered the passway
Must first of all be loosed,
Before ambrosial sovranty
Can be through you be perfused.

I’m sure that many of the regular readers of this blog have made progress in bettering themselves since they began. With that progress comes increased output, and increased pressure in everyday life. I have experienced this, and yet I have lately been noticing that there are little vestiges of the old ways that seem to hold on. This poem has made me realize that it is high time that I turned up the pressure and got the rest of it out. I might have to deal with some fallout from it, but it is time for a clean and new start so the next level if progress can be reached.

Seemingly our disbelief prevents the seeing of the door to an experience of divine delight that is always before us. Your ways do open the way to wonder and glory.

Your intriguing poem seems a description of repentance. It is one step to recognize the need to change, yet to be done with the thing that is impeding my mastery it requires I actually do it. I find the occasion to reprove my habit will arise, and at that point, the higher level of living I’d previously acknowledged becomes a fact in my experience. My higher nature has an aperture to influence my life, and as you so exquisitely suggest , the “ambrosial sovranty”, brings unimagined additions!

Repentance gives you a clean slate in spirit, but not in form. The form has to be reworked and as Zach mentioned in his comment the vestiges must be dealt with, or “sluiced” as I put it, or they will grow back like weeds and forestall if not choke off entirely any movement in the newly established direction.

We must be vigilant when we make changes in our lives and bravely continue to move forward. It takes practice, courage and a resolute heart to cut away those things which do not belong in your life to make way for those that do.

Many people don’t want to make changes because they know they’ll have some ‘splainin’ to do as the world around them rearranges to the new influence being exerted by the changed individual. In those instances, it’s not so much the fear of change that stops them but the fear of what they might have to do to confirm the change that does.
