Human beings tend to pride themselves whenever they manage a little bit of consistency while rocking along in the tempestuous sea of vicissitude called life. I myself paused for a moment when I saw the counter which tracks the number of consecutive daily posts reach 999 this morning and as soon as I finished a short but genuine pat of my own back I did a little humbling math.
Consider this:
- In roughly a third of that time the forces of life guided my newest cousin (born yesterday!) from a simple fertilized zygote to a complex organism differentiated into trillions of organized, efficient intelligently designed cells.
- In a little more than a third of that time honeybees around the world accomplished another year of stunning production – 2.2 billion pounds of honey – a marvelous feat when you consider that much of our agricultural system hangs on the consistency of an insect whose flight capabilities exploit the farthest edges of possibility described by our current theories on aerodynamics.
- In the last 15 minutes your heart beat close to 999 times, without stopping to congratulate itself.
You see, when compared to the regularity of the forces which govern our world and the natural kingdom which performs much of its work, doing something once a day, 999 times in a row isn’t that big of deal.
It’s a little humbling, really.
That said, what have you done consistently over the last two and three quarters years? It’s a question worth asking. Consistency needn’t imply sameness, in fact, the best part about consistent creative expression is that it can and should be shaped on the anvil of your soul by the hammer of your body, heart and mind in a way that complements the present needs of the world around you.
You are either the actor who extends a creative influence into the world around you or you are you are acted upon by the swirling vicissitudes of life. It’s one or the other and you have a choice. Act radiantly…or be acted upon.
Thanks for shining the mirror on each of us with this post. If we’re not asking the question ourselves, though, then it will just be a fleeting moment of introspection.

Wow! Congratulations Gregg. Your consistency in substance has been amazing and appreciated. I’m either inspired or enlightened by your posts and include your blog in my daily reading. I have found few places that are so dependable to give me food for thought or stir my soul to rise up. Thank you.

Congratulations on the very impressive post record. It is amazing that even as the quantity of your posts goes up, the quality never wavers.
This blog is a wonderful inspiration, but I think you really put the onus on us, your readers, with this post. I feel the responsibility to be just as radiant in my own life as you have been in the writing of this blog. It might be writing, it might be something else, but there are many opportunities that I have every day where I make the choice whether to be radiant or not. This is a great chance to step it up another notch.

Well, I still think a pat on the back is well deserved! Not may people are as consistent in offering an intelligent, balanced and uplifting boost each day without fail.
That being said, there are so many ways by which our expressions add up, or subtract as the case may be! Life is very busy, as your illustrations point out, and if we are in the flow of life there will be a lot to accomplish on numerous fronts in the brief time we have on this earth.
Congratulations in advance on clicking over 1000!
