The Being within you-the true you- is compelled to greatness. It is driven to magnify below that which comes to focus in it from above. Who you are in the deepest sense has a single purpose, namely, to honor and glorify that which is “above.”
Jesus summarized it in this way: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Such a straightforward instruction, but so elusive to the self-active mind of man!
Let’s dive into it a bit…
Notice that he begins with “Let…” He does not say “Try” or “strive,” he says “Let.” To human consciousness in its present state, the notion of letting makes absolutely no sense. We are taught, exhorted, and incentivized to try, strive, push, knuckle down, roll up our sleeves, dive into it, make things happen, etc. so much that it would seem that anything but let its acceptable!
Even to the earnest Christian, whose right function is often associated with struggling, fighting the so-called “good fight,” etc., the idea of letting is perplexing and foreign. Friends, no amount of trying to be a good person, striving to resist evil, and so on, amounts to anything more than beating around the “letting” bush. This may be a tough pill to swallow, but it is the truth!
Incidentally, “[l]et your light so shine…” is what makes “[r]esist not evil” the only effective way to address any situation. Remember: struggle with implies subjection to, always.
Stop struggling, start letting, and you will stop surviving and start living the way you were designed to live!
