To Love and to be Beloved

“Eros”, by Ralph Waldo Emerson

The sense of the world is short,
Long and various the report,
To love and be beloved;
Men and gods have not outlearned it,
And how oft soe’er they’ve turned it,
‘Tis not to be improved.

To love and to be beloved you must yield to love, lean into it, and let it characterize your every thought, word and deed. Love is not something you manufacture or whip up. Love is. Love formed the very core of you. Love beckons you constantly to higher function.

Take care that you don’t give residence to ill spirits in your heart such as fear, greed, disdain or anger. Any space taken by those spirits displaces the spirit of love. Use the shovel of forgiveness to exhume those dead and filthy spirits from your heart and let love fill the holes.

When you are centered in love you can truly love and be beloved. So let it be!

  1. The feeling of tenderness for that which is dearly loved at times may bring a deep pleasing or even a tear to the eye. Your words are an acknowledgement of what really matters. May men and gods CONTINUE to learn and increasingly know it.
