Come to Rest

If you are truly giving from who you are in the deepest sense, you care not how it is being received. When you give in this way, your life expression is simply the outer, radiant projection of an inner, perfect reality. And perfection, dear readers, is not self-conscious. “It is”, as my mother likes to say, “what it is”.

The trouble comes for most people when they abandon the expression of who they are in the frantic search of who they think they should be…or worse, who they think others would like them to be. You are who you are, no matter what you try to do to convince yourself or others otherwise.

It should be noted that this desertion usually comes during the low times and particularly during the “all time lows.” During these watershed moments people are inclined to reinvent themselves or shuffle the deck they’ve been dealt (e.g. find a new job, buy a new car, start a new relationship, etc.) only to find out that how things look on the outside is actually secondary to what is happening on the inside.

If there is inner turmoil – a troubled heart – you must find a way to come to rest internally before you make any moves externally. Most people get that backwards. They try to rearrange their lives to set the stage for inner peace but in so doing they invariably find that the inner agitation starts spilling over and coloring the new circumstances.

You are much better off relaxing more deeply into who you are at the core of you than you are trying to zig or zag more quickly or creatively to get away from your problems.

You can’t run away from who you are inside. You can change it, but you can’t obfuscate it on the outside without doing the work and making the inner change.

I read something today that said to solve procrastination, remember that action must come before motivation. Action creates motivation. You must make the default an action and wait for the feeling to come along with it. Similarly, to change the outer you must first act to change the inner. Because what comes from inside shapes how you interact with your outer circumstances, you must first act to change the inner before you can hope to change how the outer feels to you, or how you interact with the outer.

You have just articulated vital words that are absolutely health enhancing. So much of the causes of health concerns relates to an unsettled heart. Coming to rest internally is vital for health to be known.

The older I get the more I chuckle at attempts to design the lives we wish to live. Understanding that the well spring of an individuals central purpose creates a life that is unique, exciting and fullfilling will make certain that the days are not wasted in pointless struggle. I think this is where the the idea that our needs are understood by the Omnipotent before we realize them becomes not only sound advice but an aspect of the enjoyment and ease actually provided for a well lived life.
