Authentic Power

Pope Francis made a beautiful statement yesterday that really got me thinking. He said: “Let us never forget that authentic power is service.”

When you think about the other counterfeit forms of power in circulation today and throughout most of recorded history – knowledge, military prowess, wealth, etc. – it’s easy to become a little dismayed if not overwhelmed by the ubiquitous corruption. How so many generations of people and such mighty nations could be deceived so thoroughly is almost unbelievable!

When you strip away all the abuses of power, however, you see that there is but one power, lightened with glory: the authentic power of love, which manifests through service. Genuine service is the evidence of the presence of the mighty angel within each person. It unlocks misery, repairs breaches, lifts spirits and resuscitates hope.

If you’re not living your life in service to others, you’re not really living. Self-service doesn’t count; service, to be genuine must be directed outward in relation to the world around you.

  1. How about today…!?!?
We end the evidence of lack and bring the evidence of the presence?
Individually and collectively. Those who have the privilege to hear this today, how about we, let it be revealed as it should be….just for today, for starters.
Let us, the readers, function in choir, through whatever we have the privilege of doing today.
That “FACTUAL” service might be restored to the earth, today.

You (and the Pope) have just identified what I have known for some time, and that is the essence of sales, which is service. Of course, it must expand from there to all of our living, but to me to be in sales (the professional way) is to genuinely serve; to be of service and value to others. Once understood it is natural to allow that to spill over to, actually dominate, the rest of your life. And oh how effective we become when we truly forget ourselves and immerse ourselves into the service of others.

Don’t we wish that all of our government would pay attention to this very fundamental principle of living! We probably wouldn’t need much government then would we!

I think selfless service could be considered one of the greatest medicines on earth. It cures us at every level, whether it be emotional, psychological or physical.

In our lives, this is a shift of seismic proportions. It changes everything and puts us on a trajectory that can be incomprehensible to those not encompassed in that power. Beautiful quote thank you for your expansion of it.
