Give Thee Rest

Thou giver of my deepest thoughts of joy,
Who from the solemn darkness doth proclaim
Words unformed through my heart no longer coy,
How can I give thee rest and fan thy flame?
The world has grown cold, embers once red hot
Now smolder with righteous indignation
And earth, disfeatured by man’s cold fiat,
Yearns to be repurposed by true suasion.
I long to acclaim Thine unerring truth
That Thou canst at last take rest in sooth.

There is something more available than what is currently present. Some might try to stuff it down and snuff it out, but not one of us has that power. We have, however, been given the power to change ourselves. The power to change a purposeless life to one that makes a difference. We have been given an opportunity to fan the embers, but no opportunity lasts forever.

A prayer to which has drawn forth a deep sense of true comfort.
A prayer to which I yield, and reciprocate, through quiet rest, that the way be prepared in my heart for whats to come.
This eve, shall be one to remember.
Thank-you Gregg, for giving expression to what my heart longs for also.

A beautiful articulation of the longing that brings fulfillment. Too often the longing of men and women simply turns in on itself, eventually devouring the individual needlessly. We are here to fulfill an ancient longing, one that cannot be assuaged by momentary individual satisfaction. To recognize this is the beginning of honesty and, ironically, the beginning of individual fulfillment too!

I feel a little inadequate in aptly matching the reverent tone of your beautiful poem Gregg. It gives opportunity to come on one’s knees and be not coy. Thank you, thank you.

Your poem echoes my thoughts and yearnings. The myriad trappings of past and present cultures seem often pointless, twisted by the conspicuous absence of truth. To acclaim the truth so the world can fulfill its promise of succor, I must make sure to the best of my ability that it is the foundation for my motivation and as it is revealed through my heart I stay true to its guidance. Beautiful post!
