A New Standard

“Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God.” – George Washington

To what standard do you repair? Have you thought about it? More importantly, have you articulated it verbally or better, put it in writing?

If you live your life on the basis of subconscious defaults, never really taking the time to verbalize the ideals to which you are dedicated, you will likely be tossed with the waves when the winds are contrary.

It saddens me that most people put more thought into the outfits they wear or the the food they eat than they do considering the qualities of character and expression which lead to worthiness.

Why not set a new standard? Dare to raise the bar, my friends!

Your quotation from our founding father and your words reminds us of our living responsibilities. Thanks for bringing to mind the need to consider and verbalize and express our ideals for this is what what brings happiness.

The qualities of character and expression to which we hew, our personal standard, should be looked at as the more important nourishment.
Thanks for this reminder Gregg, my standard will be reviewed at depth and the bar raised!

When you verbalize something, it is much more difficult to ignore the dissonance between thought and truth. For instance, if you believe you stand for something but never take any action in your life or even think concretely about that thing, do you really stand for it?
It is a dangerous product of our overconnected world to think that imagination approaches the importance of reality. Just because you can imagine yourself as something does not make it so. Hopefully most of us know that imagination is not reality, but the more insidious danger to our lives is dampening our natural need for action with the constant stimulation of entertainment. It makes it so we do not ever have to feel the absence of our standard.

A saying that goes with what you are indicating here….
“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything”
Probably a good time to be clear about that for which we stand!

There surely is something quite remarkable that occurs when something is brought to full awareness, as if all the powers in your being converge on the object of your focus. Things can be equally created or destroyed. Furthermore, you commit yourself in the written word, compelling mental focus to all your heart’s desires as you solidify certain standards set forth in your intent, and in this commitment, an honest man or woman can be made for now you must follow through in action.
A good exercise with profound implications!

Articulating your standard can be done in many ways too. Here are a few ideas; poetry, writing stories, blogging, painting, journaling , writing plays, composing music, television scripts, short documentaries, photography. Thanks for the inspiration!
