Variations on the Theme

“Nature is an endless combination and repetition of a very few laws. She hums the well-known air through innumerable variations.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I heard Halvorsen’s adaptation of Handel’s Passacaglia for violin and viola at the North Georgia Chamber Music Festival last evening and the viola at a certain point introduces a four measure theme followed by virtually every variation possible to the two instruments.

It was unexpectedly delightful!

The sensible world is tangible to us because its various components vibrate at a frequency that we can perceive. A rose is a rose because of its vibratory nature, as are the musical notes which are organized to produce a minuet, Gigue or jig. “A440”, the general standard for musical pitch, is the musical note A above middle C. It has a frequency of 440 Hz, that is, it vibrates at 440 cycles per second.

Your senses are designed to perceive a certain range of frequencies. The matter which forms the world around you – what you see, smell, taste, hear and feel – is made known to you because of its vibration. Everything has its signature vibration.

The visible world, in this sense, is the music of life. It is an ever-changing collage of vibratory patterns that interact to produce new patterns. Life is vibration. You are vibration.

If your cells vibrate faster or slower than their design tolerances allow, they go out of pattern, creating all manner of disease. Health is vibration. Sickness is vibration.

The laws by which the world is made from moment to moment are few and straightforward, like the strings on a violin and a viola. The variations in expressions however, are endless and eternally delightful!

I think that most of us can innately feel the repetition in the laws that govern the world. Whether we forget them because it is convenient, or we thought we understood them when we really didn’t, it hurts us and others when we are not aligned with the world’s rules. In fact, I could say that every problem in the world stems from the fact that someone is not following the rules of the world, or in other words not in tune with the appropriate vibration.
Just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean that it isn’t there, and sometimes our intuition can guide us places that our eyes would never find.

    That was awesome!
Since everything has it’s signature vibration, it would be most wise for us to individually and collectively ensure our output or broadcast, of our unique signature be what it was meant to be, in symphony with the Grand Orchestra called life!
Like those two demonstrated to perfection, it’s certainly possible.
Thanks Gregg! (Were you wearing a top hat last eve?)

Loved having breakfast with Itzhak and Pinchas thanks for delightful addition! Like mastery playing an instrument, becoming masterful at living increases range, opportunity and uses the seeming same instrument to create a miracle.

So many vital implications in what you say here. Frequencies that vibrate in a similar range are solid, or immediately perceptible, to one another. We perceive through our senses, each of them tuned to particular ranges of frequency, but there is undoubtedly so much more that we do not ordinarily perceive. On the other hand, as our hearts are refined and kept clear of coursening elements, we may perceive a whole range of elements that had been unknown to us. I always feel your posts are a reminder of that!

Thanks for sharing your delight in the music. I have taken note of how your post relates to the matter of health and disease. It is interesting to consider the designed ranges of frequency for our bodies. I utilize a technique where if a person has pain on the left side we look to work with the right side first before going to the problem area. It is thought that setting an influence with something that is working helps the opposite side remember its rightful pattern or frequency. Makes me think of your blog and those interested in setting a pattern for what are perceived as problems to have an orientation point in what is rightfully working rather than trying to immediately go to fix up the concern.

Coming to rest in what is, rather than struggle with what isn’t ….Great point!
It’s a delightful treat to read the responses, that depict the different variations of the same thing!

I just saw the video – wow that certainly is spellbinding! The phenomenal world, filled with all manner of sound, light and forms, is most spectacular and when you find it’s combinations shaped by the hand of a seasoned artist, both in its creation and execution, it becomes magical.
It’s amazing to think we all have that capacity, to demonstrate artistry in our living. In fact, ‘making music’ is more like a general notion where it can be applied to virtually anything we are doing. In music, you take roughly 12 or so notes and weave them together in various tempos with various rhythms and you have endless possibilities to express a something. Adding another instrument now multiplies that even further. How so when people come together and seek to create and execute the same piece of music? This has been a constant problem as organizations and businesses and nations have tended to lose a bit of their spirit and integrity as they grow and thus they cannot be sustained past a certain point. It’s as if part of an orchestra were to start playing out of tune; it quickly becomes an ear-sore.
All I know is that we are inherently attracted to harmony and living in discord not only serves to harm ourselves but puts everyone else at risk too. I vouch for that which brings together in a spirit of true good will for all!
