What every man seeks

What every man seeks is satisfaction. He deceives himself so long as he imagines it to lie in self-indulgence, so long as he deems himself the center and object of effort. His mind is spent in vain upon itself. Not in action itself, not in “pleasure,” shall it find its desires satisfied, but in the consciousness of right, of powers greatly and nobly spent. It comes to know itself in the motives which satisfy it, in the zest and power of rectitude.” – Woodrow Wilson

Impropriety besieges the soul of a man. Rectitude liberates it.

Righteousness is not the product of a humanly composed moral code, it is evidence of the presence of eternal truth in momentary expression. It comes whenever and wherever heart and mind are absolutely centered in the spirit and power of love.

This really strikes at one of the most important questions that we have to answer. Why is the majority of humanity dissatisfied with their lives? Why is it that some people that appear to achieve the most are still unhappy, but some that do not have much of an appearance of achievement are satisfied with their lives, or at least with the direction their lives are moving in? I would say it Woodrow Wilson’s quote is the answer to that question. If you are living a life of right, a life that is in tune with right, then you will be satisfied. If not, you won’t be. It is simple, and the way to get from dissatisfied to satisfied is to first change your paradigm by which you believe satisfaction can be achieved (and this blog is a big help with that). Secondly you have to make the day to day choices that take you there, and that no one can do for you. That is something that must be done constantly.

  2. Sounds like Woodrow had a point to his life. Coming to know oneself in the motives that satisfy is such a profound realization. Our lives can be worthwhile as we do the things that truly satisfy our souls aligned with the the spirit and power of love. Here is rectitude. Your posts are an ever open door to the experience of fulfillment now. Thank you.

How could there be fulfillment without full complementation of purpose? And purpose is an integral part of the core reality of anyone’s being. People seek compelemtation in so many unfortuante ways, but here is where passion can safely rest – in the concern to live a life lit and guided by radiant purpose.

And would it not be fair to say that love’s only desire is to bless everything in its field of influence? Fulfillment thus has to come from the inside, where true peace reigns supreme through the dominion of love. No doubt that this stronghold will be challenged every single day in the world the way it is, but I’ve learned that there need not be war nor any kind of struggle, for the best defense against love’s intruders comes through the attitudes that come with being in love – gratitude, appreciation, thankfulness to name a few. These quickly right any corrosive influence into your castle, your inner abode, and keeps the halls full of warmth and light. You are thus free to bless and in turn receive deep fulfillment, surely as I see the sun rise at this very moment.

Appreciation, thankfulness and forgiveness are the actions that assist with finding that centering in love. Our own heart and mind can become the grounding we need for righteous living when they are taken up with these spirits.
