A Process of Becoming

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through.  Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it.  This is a kind of death.” ~ Anaïs Nin

The one constant in life is change.

If you are not sure of yourself, of your purpose or your reason for being, the constant change can be disconcerting. If your identity is centered in that which you have instead of in that which you are, you might find yourself at a certain point in life desperately holding on to those things you like, hoping against hope that they are not carried off by the sands of time.

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.” ~ Muhammad Ali

We are a creative force of change.
If we are doing something right our very presence would put pressure on those elements in consciousness that are no longer fitting.
Everything must flow, our lives particularly, are the very opportunities that we each have to align with the force of change and become the creative influence we were born to be.

That nothing remain the same; day by day; behold I make all things new.

Here’s another hurdle – how we derive our sense of security. So much is emphasized through external sources; so much so that we’ve almost forgotten the inner wellspring of our lives and its direct effect on our sense of identity and thus our security. Developing a deep sense of identity with our inner selves creates less dependance on external constants to keep us stable and in balance.

How desperately in need of change the world is, that is pretty much an understatement, and it would, obviously, be rather hypocritical if we were unwilling to let those changes begin with ourselves. Thank you Gregg, for the opportunity to examine, update and refresh.

Yes change is a constant in life but who we are is not. I am comforted in the thought that at the core of us is a constant radiance from which all springs. Here is a constant we can rest assured in admidst the changes in our life.

It is one’s purpose in life that acts as a beacon in a swirling sea of constant change. A clear focus on purpose will keep you on course.

Well said! I can barely indentify with the person of my 20’s nor do I reflect fondly on my 40’s and wish it were so. I do agree with the notion that for the most part youth is wasted on the young. There is much to be said for wisdom and robust health but seldom are they enjoyed by the same person. I am grateful for columns (aka blogs) such as yours Gregg in hope that some of the younger folk will get a jump on the wisdom inherent in living an impeccable life and older folk will be inspired that life can be increasingly impeccable. Thanks !

How we handle change IS how we handle life! If someone says to me that they are bad at handling changes, I know that they will be unreliable in times of pressure, because they are generally the same thing. You can kick and scream, and try to hold on to things being your “ideal”, but “the changes, they are coming”.
