I had the great pleasure of hearing Dr. Maya Angelou speak at the International Spa Association’s annual conference several years ago. Her words were some of the most inspiring and profoundly important I have ever heard. Take a moment to bask in the light of her brilliant poetry…
In another interview Dr. Angelou gave this encouragement: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud…Be certain that you do not die without having giving something wonderful to humanity.”
Have a wonderful day, my friends!
This is still one of my favorite poems!! Everyone should hear her great voice at least once in their life.

This precious woman has delighted, inspired and humbled me for years. I can still vividly remember my own mother in 1970 was touched so deeply when she read Ms. Angelou’s first book “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”. I gave this book as Christmas gifts to two of my dear friends just this past holiday. It is the inspiration to be what we were created to be under any circumstances. Birds sing not because they have an answer but they have a song. Her words are a timeless treasure of love, forgiveness and strength. She has sang her song all through her life not as a result of what has happened in her life either tragic or happy but always consistently singing her song. Her song will continue to ring in our hearts because it reminds us to sing ours…and so it goes.

WOW! Thank you. She actually reminds me of my grandmother Katherine Brinkley Brown who recently past at 100 yrs old. Her poetry expressed her abiding love and trust in the human spirit, much like Dr. Angelou. So nice to think of her this morning.

I too have enjoyed the words of Dr. Angelou, she is able to put into words a spirit that is very often intangible. I appreciate her ability to gently remind us to take responsibility for the worlds we create! Thanks

Great post – her poem is delicious,….i could drink it up! – her passion for life is contagious.
As my oldest son used to say each morning when he woke – “dad, I’m back”,….as if to say to the world, “I’m hear and ready for action!, nothing will stop me”.
What will I bring that will make today exceptional?!!…like Kate said, it’s our choice.

WOW! Her inspiring and deeply heartfelt words made quite an impression. And still we rise… regardless of adversity, the beautiful human spirit CAN remain inviolate if we so choose. Thanks for sharing, Gregg!
