You cannot be honest with others until you are honest with yourself. Dishonesty with yourself produces internal conflict, a state once defined as “a house divided.” You can try to rationalize your thoughts and actions, or try to cover up feelings you know you shouldn’t have given any weight to, but such attempts always result in the widening of the chasm between the real and the unreal you, as well as between you and those whom you love.
Deep honesty is called for if you are to be true to yourself, true to your Creator, and true to those you care most about.
