“There are two things that men should never weary of, goodness and humility; we get none too much of them in this rough world among cold, proud people.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
I had a heartfelt conversation with a friend yesterday about a personal hardship she is facing. She made a comment that stuck with me about her unwillingness to malign someone who had treated her unjustly. She said, “My friends think I’m being naïve, but I can’t lower myself to his level. To do so would mean I don’t believe in the power of love or in the goodness of people. And if I give up on those, what is there left to hope for in the world?”
No matter how hard things get, take care that you never abandon love or your belief in the fundamental goodness of people. People do judge themselves so you needn’t fill your days with judgment.
Looking and seeing the fundamental goodness in people is enlivening. Here the power of love is at work making what matters increase!
