Find Your Voice

If you are to be a creator, to be creative in living, you must first find your voice.

Everyone has a voice. And each is unique. Your voice can be heard through your words as well as through your actions. Your voice, properly sounded, influences minds and opens hearts in the world around you.

Exactly how you unlock your voice is a personal matter. You alone possess the key. There are, however, a few things that can help you prepare the key for service.

Listen a lot. Oddly enough, refraining from speaking when you have nothing important to say prepares the way for you to say only that which matters.

Write a lot. Writing primes the pump and allows you to zero in, over time, on that which clothes your true voice. Try poetry, prose, song-writing or keeping a journal. Any genre will do!

Sing out loud. Singing opens the channels from your heart to your voice, establishes an active vibration in you that energizes and amplifies your deeper thoughts and feelings.

Let your karma run over your dogma. You are more often imprisoned by your own approach to living than you are confined by the prejudices and opinions of others. Dare to express a wink of charm, a pinch of pizazz and a dash of spice in areas of your living that have become dull and monotonous.

Get out of yourself. Go an entire day without speaking or writing in the first person. Drop “I, me mine and myself” from your vocabulary just for a day and focus instead on complementing the expression of those around you. Sometimes finding yourself involves losing yourself in this sense.

Have fun with this. Loosen up and let the world know who you really are!

These are some great ideas on how to discover your voice! Finding one’s inner voice is a very important step in life, and it is critical if you are trying to be a leader. Remember too, that on the path to finding your voice you will find many intermediate voices, and to keep moving and eventually you will find your true mature voice. This is something that few people find, but they really can make an impact on the lives of those around them.

Great points, Colin. After having read a few of your insightful comments over the past few months I’d love to give stage to your emerging voice…perhaps a post on this blog?

Enjoyed this post. Finding your voice is the first job using it wisely is the next. I read a few blogs, some professional forums others about my hobby. It’s similar to having a drivers license, you have to use common sense, understand good manners and realize your not the only one on the road.
