Life is Trusteeship

Trusteeship is one of the great words of life because it concentrates in a single expression the essence of all true living. It inspires man with the revelation of his constant relation to himself, to all others and to the Infinite. It gives a royal dignity to life, making man, not a mere isolated individual, but interblended with other lives and an indispensable factor in the whole scheme of living.

The moment you realize that you are naught but a steward for all that comes your way in the living of life, you are free to begin living as you were born to live. You realize that you are no longer alone, that you are an integral part of the body of humanity.
My hope in this blog is to find the words to describe the means by which you can become a responsible and capable trustee in every aspect of your life. As a trustee, you administer in the best interest of the beneficiaries. Who are your beneficiaries? In some cases you can name them. In others, those who benefit from your decisions and actions shall remain anonymous. In either case, someone will benefit to the degree that you uplift, refine and improve all that comes your way.

This perspective that nothing material is really ever ours, yet we have everything we truly need as we keep an entrusted and resourceful attitude in life, to me, has brought more understanding and vision to my life than probably any other concept. Once you raise your awareness, perhaps looking at the world when you are sitting in a window seat on an airplane – you really have to ask yourself, how did we get to the place where we’re all fighting about who own this that and the other? I mean really, trace it back and where do you end up? Someone got crafty/wily and started taking advantage of someone else, or one culture to another, right?
To restore this sense of equanimity in today’s economic climate, at least in essence, the only way I know is to focus your service with its appropriate cost on the end users, and those form part of our benefactors. In fact, you don’t even have to go that far, for if you want to simplify it all, maintaining an attitude of help and servitude is enough to get the job done, in all that you do in both your professioinal and private life. Being consistent paves the way for harmony.

Every action, thought or word; even when spoken only to ourselves ignites or supports something. I heard an interview on NPR discussing how the college graduates of today are entering a different world then their parents or grandparents. It went on to say that what defined success and happines for them is different then their forebears. As we all are trustees of whatever comes into our lives and for the life we were entrusted to live, it seems what we face is irrelevant. Our circumstances, come what may, is the world we were charged to leave in better shape then we found it. Your blog is one of my resources that helps me to do that. Thank you.

  3. When we uplift, refine and improve than we are living up to the gift and responsibility of being a true trustee. For me, and I suspect for most others as well, honoring the trust that has been placed in me to honor those characteristics is something that I think about constantly. The question that I ask myself is “is what I am about to say, do or think going to uplift, refine and improve” or is it going to cause the opposite?

It is a profound trust, and therefore honor, to be able to make a positive difference in the lives of others. However, it is not something that one should take lightly.

Gregg, your daily postings are honoring being a legitimate and true Trustee and I for one deeply appreciate them – thank you!
