“Hospitality is making your guests feel at home, even though you wish they were.” ~ Anonymous
How do you receive those who come within your sphere of influence as you move through the day? Do you give them a reception fit for a king regardless of how you feel, what resources you have at your disposal, and so on, or do you greet them haphazardly, with little or no concern to make them feel special?
Use this holiday season as a means of upgrading the quality of your hospitality to your fellows. Be willing to see them in a new way, no matter how well you think you know them, how long you’ve been close or how many times they’ve proved themselves to be a certain way.
Do so and I guarantee you will unlock the world around you in ways you never imagined possible.
This is kind of a funny example, but I went to get a coffee at a starbucks the other day, and instead of the usual “Here’s your drink”, the gentleman that handed me the coffee said “I really hope you enjoy this”, in a very sincere way. I could tell that he really meant it, and that he really cared about each and every one of the many, many drinks he makes in a shift. It actually was very touching, and it showed how true hospitality can really upgrade the way that both people involved interact with everything in their lives. This was just a drink at starbucks, imagine what you could provide to someone as your guest for the whole holiday weekend…

I love this! The spirit of hospitality is needed in every circumstance, not just with those you want to make a good impression with as everyone deserves respect and a hospitable attitude.

This is a good reminder during the holidays. We should focus less on ourselves and more on others. Easier said than done.

No one’s expression has any meaning, apart from potential, without being received and appreciated by others. We are each the means for the manifestation of the gifts of others. As we provide the setting for those around us to shine, they will in turn provide for us in like manner. Perhaps this is a way of describing the reality behind the compulsion to give gifts at this time of year!

Great quote but I understand why it remained anonymous! Benjamin Franklin said something like fish and house guests all stink after 3 days. I think it depends on the guests. I’ve had some that I hated to see leave.
