“The One” or “Girl Finds Cello”

“The One” or “Girl Finds Cello” – a poem by Gregg Hake

He leaned silently against the tired floor
Which had heard so many songs before—
Songs of victory and defeat, of love and of sorrow,
Of war and of peace.
A single rose sat upon his side,
Vouchsafed by a fair maiden who in passing
Fell deeply in love with his mellow strains
and sinewy bouts.
The melodious tenor of his voice
Strummed her heartstrings―
She felt alive, awakened by the gods
From within and above.
She knew in an instant, he was the one.
