The longing to belong is one of the deepest motivations of the human heart. Belonging gives you context and is a place from which you can actualize your purpose.
If you direct that longing to that which is whole, holy, and sacred, your energies will be directed toward the accomplishment of your true purpose. If, on the contrary, you are careless in the style of your belonging and attach that longing to whatever comes along or perhaps to whatever you are told to belong to, the longing may be quenched, but fulfillment will not follow.
Belonging naively to a clique, club, religion, culture, relationship, or any other systems in which humanity has organized itself never culminates in the deepest fulfillment you can know on earth. It may settle things at the surface of your existence but it won’t satisfy the core of your being.
Be careful as to who and what you give yourself to. Don’t let your longing to belong pull you around by the nose. Direct it, invest it wisely, purposefully, and with deliberate intent. The quality of your life and the actualization of your inner purpose depends upon it!
