It occurred to me this morning that virtually every one of “my” best decisions at work came not from me exclusively, but from the thoughtful considerations of those with whom I am privileged to collaborate. In fact, one of my favorite things to hear when speaking with my colleagues at work is the opening phrase: “I was thinking…”
I’ve observed over time that such talk threatens an insecure manager, but thrills a strong one. Weak people are terrified of people who think for themselves; strong people are inspired by them.

I find it interesting that independence is so treasured when it seems that interdependence always appears to yield the most successful result. When we experience for ourselves the understanding, that “no man is an island”, then the end of of John Donne famous poem, “…And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.” describes the depth of our connectedness with our fellows.
